I turned twenty eight last week and it was possibly one of the quietest birthdays on record. Whilst celebrating a birthday during lockdown feels restricted and almost insignificant – I feel privileged to have made it through another year. I feel especially privileged to have made it to this point in 2020 in relatively good health and with people around me that I now cherish more than ever before…

Sam and I made carrot cake the night before – buying a cake felt sort of pointless when creating it ourselves would make for a fun activity. It actually turned our perfectly too! Carrot cake has been my favourite cake for as long as I can remember.

I woke and had breakfast in bed, then we went for a little walk in our local park when the sun came out and had a few drinks surrounded by the trees. I feel so grateful for nature this year. It’s helped ground me in my most desperate moments of isolation, it’s helped alleviate my anxieties about the world, and it’s elevated rare moments of happiness and peace…

I feel lucky every single day that I have someone to bake, and laugh, and cry with throughout this time. Lockdown has really put things into perspective for so many of us, and I feel as though this year will be monumental in the making of our future selves. I feel proud of my twenty eight years, and I’m nervous but excited to see where things go from here.

Another year older, wiser, stronger, more resilient.
