I’ve really been into the whole ‘blazer dress’ look lately and I think it’s such a great way to get the best out of your favourite oversized blazer. It’s a simple way to take it from day-to-night, and with the right accessories it can look really chic and put-together…

I feel like this particular outfit is a bit ‘Twiggy inspired’ – there’s something about black tights and oversized earrings that instantly make me think of her. This Gestuz blazer is definitely one of the very few blazers I have that I’m able to pull of this look with. The length has to be right because the waist belt will instantly make it shorter on your body – I guess it all depends on how short your comfortable with. I’ve seen people create this look with a skirt or cycling shorts underneath, but for me, it has to be black tights as a nod to that vintage/Sixties inspired look I love so much…

Of course, you can buy dresses that are already designed to emulate the look of a blazer, but if you can create it with what you already have lying around then it’s much more sustainable (and fun). I just wore a black bralet underneath but you can layer a little cami top or even a turtleneck if you’re worried about it flying open all of a sudden. You could even wear a little dress underneath if you just wanted to wear this look as outerwear on the way to your event/party etc. There’s so many ways you could style this look and I think that’s what makes it so appealing to me…

I’m rarely interested in clothes that I know I can only wear with one look. I want the pieces in my wardrobe to work hard for their place. I want them to be versatile and I want them to adapt with me as my style flows in different directions.

I also feel like since I’ve had shorter hair, it’s been my ultimate accessory! I’m still so glad that I decided to lob it all off, and I really haven’t looked back since that day. It’s really helped me to abandon ‘what I thought I should look like to be appealing as a woman’ and to just sink into being my authentic self instead.

That’s not to say that I dislike long hair either – it just wasn’t for me. I genuinely love styling my hair now and I love the silhouette it creates with different outfits. Especially something like this blazer dress when teamed with a beret. It just makes me feel like I’ve wandered off the set of a Godard film in the best possible way…

I’ve said it a thousand times already, but this time of year really is the richest in terms of styling opportunities. I love being able to layer and play around with different pieces – there’s something about the darker days that makes me want to be a bit braver and bolder with my outfit choices too! As though I’m somehow combatting the gloomy weather with with my wardrobe, one wintery day at a time…
