It’s been a while since I’ve sat down and discussed clothing on here! It’s been a busy few weeks, so it feels nice to be back in Manchester and back creating blog content. I don’t feel as though I have much to update you on, but it’s basically been a month of getting stuck into some work projects and planning out the autumn/winter months ahead…

There’s lots of autumn themed content coming your way very soon, but for now, I thought this magnificent trench coat deserved a whole post of it’s own. I’ve been wearing it so much, and it’s really nice to have a piece that I’m so excited to style in different ways. It’s such a classic style, and I really can’t see myself ever getting tired of reaching for it…

I know it’s been a bit impossible to track down so I’ve scoured the internet for some of my favourite trench coats that I think will be perfect for taking through to spring. I don’t think trench coats needs to be a strictly spring/summer city piece. I think they look great with a thick roll neck knit underneath and some Chelsea style boots for extra ‘London in the Sixties’ points…

My favourite feature of this Alexa X Barbour trench (after the gingham print ofc) has to be the little waist tie! It’s so handy for keeping an outfit together on windy days, and really feels as though it was created with the unpredictable British weather in mind. I mean, everything Barbour create is very much intended for the great outdoors, but this creation feels very much at home on the blustery streets of Manchester…

I also feel like a trench coat is one of those magical outerwear pieces that just transforms whatever you have on underneath into ‘instant chic’. You could be wearing your favourite loungewear with some beaten up trainers and a trench coat would make it appear intentional and put-together. They are just one of those pieces that make me feel like a much smarter and chicer version of myself whenever I put on one…

Although Burberry and Aquascutum both lay claim to having invented the trench coat (adopted by officers during WWI), it’s one of those pieces that has since gone on to have so many different connotations thanks to books and films created over the years. It’s definitely a piece that I romanticise, and one that’s become iconic in it’s own right.

There’s just a certain intrigue and mystery that surrounds the trench coat. Whether it’s a private detective or a bookish lady strolling through the isles of a library – the trench coat is the genderless classic that seems to emit the persona of whoever chooses to wear it…
