I’ve had a blazer in my wardrobe for as long as I can remember – as my style has grown and evolved, a blazer seems to be one piece that’s always stuck around. It’s a classic piece that for me, helps to blur the line between strictly masculine or feminine dressing. It suits everyone, it looks good on everyone, it comes in an array of different styles and designs, and it’s definitely not just suitable for that job interview you’ve been dreading. Without further adieu, I’ve put together a fun little list of reasons of why a blazer will always be a piece worth investing in…

1) A blazer will always be timeless – as shown above, you can be wearing the most simple of outfits (T-shirt and jeans), but throw on a statement blazer and suddenly you look like you know what you’re doing. A little trick that’s helped me out of some of the worst style ruts…

2) A blazer hides a multitude of sins – it’s true, that roast dinner you just ate too much of, the take out you regretted, even that huge coffee stain down your new blouse. Throw on a blazer and instantly you look put together and chic. If you spill something down your blazer, just throw another blazer on top – just kidding, that would be stupid…

3) A blazer can double up as an umbrella – so it’s not the most ideal form of rain shield, but it’s better than nothing when you’ve left your one and only brolly stuffed in a cupboard somewhere at home.

4) A blazer is actually a comfort blanket in disguise – girl cries in film, boy puts his blazer around her shoulders. Someone gets hurt, someone gets cold, a blazer always seems to be offered? Has anyone else noticed this in films/TV series or I am just losing it a bit? A blazer is somewhat of a universal comfort blanket for a multitude of woes…

5) You don’t need to iron it – the first reason to invest in any item of clothing as far as I’m concerned, life is too short for ironing. Unless it’s a fancy chiffon kind, but even then I just keep mine hanging up and this usually does the trick, a few creases always make an outfit more interesting anyway. Nothing is perfect, clothes look better when they are being worn and loved…

6) A blazer makes you feel cooler than you are – It’s true, take it from this clumsy, awkward, coordinately challenged creature. All my favourite cool-girl film characters wear blazers – whether it’s Annie Hall or the girls from Heathers, I’m constantly being inspired to invest in a new blazer…

7) You can dress it up or down – whether it’s over a silk slip dress or your favourite pair of jeans, the right blazer will always add a certain something to your outfit. Find the right trouser suit and you’re pretty much ready to take over the world…

8) Most blazers have pockets – I don’t know about you but I just love pockets, sometimes you don’t always want to rely on a bag, and a decent sized pocket to slip your phone into is more than welcome. I say phone but really I mean small pocket sized snacks…
