The words ‘Summer’ and ‘layers’ don’t really sound right together in the same breath – the idea of layers of clothing under the hot sun is enough to bring me out in a sweat already. Granted, this outfit did bring me out in a sweat, sorry if that’s TMI but just trying to keep it real over here. It was a 27 degree day, and I think I’d have been too hot no matter what the ensemble…

For the average Summer day here in the good old UK, this type of outfit is usually a winner. Flowy maxi skirt – check, thin white T-shirt – check, simple pair of Converse – check, you get the idea…

These are all pieces that most of us already own in some shape or form, and really come in handy for the often unpredictable Summer forecast. I love a longer skirt for wandering around the city – it’s practical and no gust of wind is unwelcome. In fact, I kind of think wind just makes them look even prettier, you can pretend you’re in some kind of high fashion/Sex In The City scene and style it out. Alas, I was not so high fashion and graceful in my tatty white Converse, but I like how they downplayed the look nonetheless.

A little cami top is essential for Summer and looks great on everyone – you can layer it over T-shirts for a simple daytime look, but it’s also perfect for evening time too! Summer dressing can be a bit of a nightmare for those of us that aren’t into baring lots of skin – I can just about muster the confidence for a pair of denim shorts, but in general, I love anything long and flowy. It’s a difficult one (especially in this career), as people tend to assume you must have bags of confidence. I wouldn’t say I dislike my body, there are lots of parts that I appreciate, and at the end of the day, it’s just a body. Having said that, I do become more aware of the parts that I’m not so fond of at this time of year. I’ve been making an effort to eat as clean as possible during the week and to move around a bit more – I’d love to book some personal training sessions at my local gym but I’m scared that I might actually collapse in front of them. I literally envy people with the motivation to stay fit and healthy – teach me your ways!

I think the important thing to remember is that we can all improve ourselves and our lives in some way – if not for our own gains, then for the benefit of those around us. Most of us often feel we could do better, be a little happier, a bit more driven, and it’s something we can all achieve with a positive mindset. I like this outfit because it’s one of those slightly ‘man repeller’ outfits that may not be the most flattering, but it makes me feel good – and that’s the magic of dressing for yourself, it’s a way of building yourself up from the outside in…

I’m still not really sure if I like the white tee-shirt under a dress even if I saw that a lot in England. But it looks good on you I have to say. And I love that you styled it with converse !

Another cute outfit! Love love love the almost-monochrome look – the bag adds a really nice boho beachy touch to it, which we all need a little bit of thanks to our not-so-sunny summers here in the UK! After seeing this outfit, I feel like I need to add another spotty piece to join my growing collection this season! <3
