I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a well deserved rest over the festive period! As soon as the 1st of January comes around, I’m automatically ready to start stuffing all sparkly attire to the back of the wardrobe, and find myself wanting to plan my goals for the year ahead. It’s an age old cliche, but we all tend to fall for the whole ‘new year, new me’ and all that jazz – but the new year does tend to bring some sort of new hope with it. A clean slate if you will, and a chance to do things a little differently…

Despite 2016 taking half my musical idols, I like to try and focus on all the good things that happened too – and there always are some positives if you look close enough. Of course – on a wider level, 2016 has been pretty atrocious in lots of ways, but on a more personal note, 2016 has very much been the year that I’ve needed. My little blog has gone from strength to strength since I took the plunge to start it on my 24th birthday (what took me so long??), and I feel extremely grateful for that. As someone who has suffered with anxiety since my teens – I’ve often been the type of person who took a back seat and waited for things to happen. If 2016 has taught me anything, it’s definitely that saying yes can completely change your outlook on life. Even something as simple as saying yes to coffee with a new friend you’ve been meaning to meet – I’ve been lucky enough to meet some amazing people this year who have inspired me in so many different ways.

It might have taken me until almost the grand age of 25 – but each day I’ve felt a little less anxious and that little bit more confident. Anxiety isn’t something that disappears over night and I think I’ll always have flare ups now and then – but no way near as bad as a year ago. I guess what I’m trying to say is – last year was the first year in a long while that I was really able to feel myself, and not just an aching ball of anxiety. I also think it’s important to talk about mental health as it’s something that so many people suffer with, even the people that seem to be the most confident and ‘together’. I’m still not the most confident person – but I’m gradually learning to accept the parts of myself I’m not so keen on, and to recognise the parts that I do like. It’s so important to nurture yourself – anything from taking a long bath with a book, taking up a new hobby, or booking that trip you’ve always wanted to take. I’m a strong believer that good things happen when you take some time for yourself – if not just the clarity of feeling refreshed!

I have lots of hopes and dreams for the new year ahead – I’d like to travel more and get some destinations ticked off my wish list, I’d love to blog more about different cities and how they inspire my personal style whilst I’m there. I’d also like to be in a new flat by this time next year – somewhere with a little more space to be creative, and that we can really make our own. I’m at that age where I’d love to start collecting investments for our home – some pieces of vintage furniture would be amazing. Starting with a little cart style mini bar – something I’ve always wanted as part of our living room! And we would both love to have the space to get a puppy, a little dachshund has been our dream for a while now (we have the name picked out and talk about him as though we are already owners). But of course – mainly just to be happy and healthy and to ‘be a little better’, I think that’s a nice way of making any kind of New Years resolution.

I hoped you like this slightly different/more chatty style blog post – I felt as though I had a little more to say recently without just letting the outfit take centre stage. A little cleansing ritual for my soul perhaps, and a nice way for you to get to know a little more about me. As always, everything is linked below – the jeans and the coat are both vintage but I’ve scouted some similar options as always! Apologies if this has been a bit of a rambly one – I’m currently nursing a gin hangover so all structure has gone out the window. Wishing you all the very best for the year ahead – here’s to a magical 2017!
