BROWN CORD TROUSERS

Cord seems to be one of those materials that completely divides people – you either love it or hate it. Some are of the opinion that it’s just for old men, and for others the feel of it alone makes them wince. Personally, I find elderly men some of the best dressed people around, and my opinion of cord has always been that it’s amazing when you get it right. I have a few cord A-line skirts in my collection from over the years, but I haven’t owned a pair of cord trousers since I was a child. Mainly because I just haven’t ever been able to find the right style for me…

THE BIKER JACKET

I feel like I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect biker jacket for most of my twenties – so basically around five whole years now. It was a trend that I admired when I was a teenager, but never felt cool enough for – I’d crush over the likes of Alexa Chung and hope that one day I could pull it off the way she did. Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t feel cool enough to rock a leather jacket, I am the clumsiest person you will ever meet, and I’m likely to be sat in my boyfriends dressing gown watching films when Friday evening comes around…

FRENCH SCHOOL GIRL

I have always loved playing out certain characters with the way I dress – somehow it makes the tedious tasks that lie ahead during the week a little more bearable, and often a lot more fun. There’s a certain confidence to be had in dressing for your mood each morning, whether that’s as minimal as a jumper and a pair of jeans, or something inspired by a character you’ve resonated with in a TV show or the pages of a book. I have often described my personal style as somewhere lost between Grandad and school girl, it’s the best description I’ve managed to come up with in my twenty five years…

PLAYING WITH COLOUR

Introducing colour into my outfits is a little challenge I have set myself over the last couple of months – I’ve been wanting to make my wardrobe more diverse in terms of colour range, whilst also staying true to my personal style. Whilst I love bold prints like polka dots, checks, and stripes, I tend to naturally find myself gravitating towards the less colourful option available. For me, autumn/winter is the most natural time for me to start injecting a bit of colour – suddenly we have all the muted greens, yellows and rusty orange colours available to us – burgundy scarfs and bright red knits galore, it’s my idea of colour paradise as they mesh so perfectly with the pieces I already have hanging in my wardrobe..

BACK TO VINTAGE

If you’ve followed my outfits for a while now, you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of vintage clothing in general. For some people, even the idea of vintage shopping is enough to put them off – a lot of us don’t like the idea of parting with our hard earned money if someone else has worn it first, or if it has a suspicious looking tear in the material. I completely understand why some people might not be the biggest fans of the whole vintage experience, but for me personally, I love nothing more than stumbling across the perfect vintage piece that my wardrobe has been crying out for. I get a real sense of accomplishment that doesn’t often present itself when shopping on the high street – a feeling of not only picking up an item that has a few stories to tell, but also that I’m investing a little more ethically…

THE TIME SAVING OUTFIT

Despite blogging/outfit arranging being my full time job, I’m guilty of being quite lazy when it comes to mixing up my looks each day – half asleep and usually in need of coffee, I grab whichever jeans are closest to me and work from there. Denim has pretty much always been my starting piece of choice when it comes to composing an everyday outfit – there’s one combination in particular that I wear at least once a week, and probably will do for the rest of time…

ROMANTIC WHITE BLOUSE

The white blouse is a piece that many of us own in some shape or form – whether it’s a simple work style blouse, or a more statement ruffle design, we are pretty much all familiar with it’s existence. It’s considered to be one of the basics – it’s perfect for layering, tucking in, and even for sleeping in when we are lacking in clean pyjamas. I have many white blouses in my collection, and they are pieces I reach for all year round…

SUMMER DRESS FOR WINTER

If there’s one aspect of winter that I welcome with open arms, it’s the chance to play around with layers and be more experimental with my outfits. I love nothing more than creating the perfect look to sit underneath a longline coat, then piling up the accessories until my hearts content. I could spend hours coordinating bags, shoes, and autumnal tones to create something I’ll wear over and over again. This year all I want to wear are long layers teamed with masculine ankle boots and cross body bags – this is where I’ve decided that some of my key summer pieces can come into play…

GIRLS SUPPORT GIRLS #5 | AN IMPORTANT CONVERSATION

Welcome back to another instalment of Girls Support Girls – sorry it’s been a while! In all honesty, the last few weeks have been pretty hectic, and I never want this series to be something rushed or poorly thought out. I guess I was waiting to be inspired by a new topic or train of thought, and it finally feels like the right time to just sit down and type. I’m sure that anyone who keeps up with the news or online affairs will be well aware of the media coverage surrounding sexual assault in Hollywood and beyond. Suddenly one horrific high profile string of cases has opened the gates to many more women and men speaking out against acts of inexcusable behaviour…
