STYLE VALIDATION

This is something I have been thinking about a lot lately – I guess it has something to do with the fact that the change in season always highlights new trends. Trends that we have no doubt seen before, and will no doubt see again. Like everyone, I’ve also been watching a lot of Friends since it finally got added to Netflix for our viewing pleasure. I find myself appreciating the girls fashion more and more with the tenth rewatch of every episode – it somehow still manages to feel current, as though they could walk out of the screen and onto the street with some sort of seamless fashion synergy…

GRANNY CHIC | VACATION MODE

There’s always been part of my style that’s been attracted to an element of Granny chic – lets just call it that for now. Floral tea dresses, chunky sandals, and ugly cardigans with oversized buttons galore. I used to wear a lot more floral than I do now – I’d seek as many vintage Liberty print and Laura Ashley pieces as I could find on Ebay, and style them with A-line skirts and ankle boots. There’s something about witnessing an older woman who dresses really well that gives me a strong sense of satisfaction – a woman who dresses for herself, and wears her clothing proudly for all to see…

OUT WITH THE NEW, IN WITH THE OLD…

It’s started to get a little bit warmer here in Manchester, and I’ve slowly been digging out more of my spring pieces and dusting them off. I love going through the spring/summer clothing I’ve stored away for winter and discovering them all over again – it’s important to reuse pieces, and not just buy a whole new wardrobe each season. It’s easier said than done in the fashion industry – temptation for newness is everywhere, but I’m making a conscious effort to enjoy what I already have…

CREAM VINTAGE TROUSERS

I’ve been obsessed with neutrals for as long as I can remember – they just feel so timeless, and there’s something very vintage and classy about a women dressed head to toe in neutral tones. It’s a look that I like to adopt during the spring/summer months for a number of reasons: I feel that they flatter my hair/skin tone (especially with a fresh summer holiday tan), and they are a match made in heaven for any wicker/straw accessories. Think nineteen forties safari with a Françoise Hardy edge, and you’ll have a little insight into the way I’m piecing my wardrobe together for the warmer months that lie ahead…

BALZAC PARIS

Today, I just wanted to introduce you to a French brand that’s been fresh on my radar lately – Balzac Paris. I was lucky enough to get to work with them recently, and have completely fallen in love with everything they create. If you’re a fellow Sézane fan, then I can guarantee you’ll be obsessed with the Balzac collection. Think easy to wear/throw on pieces that elevate your high waist jeans, and make you appear cooler than you really are (in my case anyway)…

DENIM FOR DATE NIGHT: TWO LOOKS

This is something I’ve wanted to put together for a while now – the majority of outfits I document on here are relatively casual, and it’s no secret that I live in vintage Levi jeans for the majority of the week. However, on the rare occasion that I want to get dolled up and feel my best – my fight to quit the denim usually fails. I’m very much a jeans and a nice top kind of girl, and probably always will be. If you’re anything like me then your ‘date nights’ are usually quite impromptu – I thought I’d break down two of my fail-safe combinations that I opt for when I’m heading out the door for a slightly fancier affair than worn loungewear and Netflix…

SPRING SATIN & SHOPPING HABITS

I love a simple satin blouse and probably always will – it’s one of those pieces I can wear all year round and it’s never not appropriate. I love how it adds a subtle festive feel to an outfit during the winter months – particularly with a red lip, and some black high waist trousers. However, it’s equally as beautiful for spring/summer with denim and lots of layered jewellery – I’m never without gold accents, they really add a certain charm to a minimal look, which lets face it, is pretty much an everyday occurrence with me…

DENIM FOR DATE NIGHT: A VIDEO

Two ‘date night’ looks for spring, both with vintage denim in mind. If you’re anything like me and you never have enough time to get ready/basically live in high waisted jeans, then you might like this one. Whether it’s a date with someone else, or just taking yourself out for pancakes…

THE KNITTED TANK TOP

A knitted tank top probably sounds like something your old history teacher wore, but bare with me here. This little navy tank was gifted to me when I first started blogging, it was one of the first clothing pieces that I was kindly sent, and I’ve kept it in my collection ever since. Despite it being of the knitted variety, it’s something I only dig out during the warmer months. I’ve worn in plenty of times with high waist jeans and a utility jacket thrown over the top for a really easy daytime look. It’s perfect if you feel like showing a little more skin, whilst keeping you snug at the same time…

SIZE UP, SUIT UP…

I recently stumbled across this check bag in a vintage shop and it was love at first sight – I’m obsessed with checked print accessories at the moment, so finding this gem for under thirty pounds was a very welcome surprise. Vintage shopping is one of my most favourite past times – I just love treasure hunting, and then walking away with something that not everyone is likely to have. It really makes my outfits feel more personal to me, and I can spend hours looking if uninterrupted…
