IMAGINARY OFFICE ATTIRE

Working for myself means that I no longer experience the usual office environment that I was once accustomed to – my office is now a compilation of various coffee shops and home surfaces. Whatever it is that I have going on from what week to the next, I’m lucky enough to be able to carry my work around with me. It’s this flexible nature of the freelance world that I will never take for granted. Even just the simple things like being able to book a dentist appointment for whenever suits me best – it can make everyday life a lot less stressful when you’re in charge of your own routine. However, one thing I do miss is getting dressed for work every morning – the majority of the time I work from home, which means I have a bad habit of gravitating towards sweat pants. I’m particularly guilty of this during the winter months, and sometimes it’s nice to throw on an outfit that inspires me to get down to business (my to-do list that is) …

AN ODE TO THE BLACK CARDIGAN

Whatever your thoughts on the humble black cardigan, I’m sure we have all owned one at some point in our lives. Whether it was forced upon you as part of your school uniform or not – I have a lot to thank the black cardigan for. It’s one of those classic pieces that suits everyone, and I can’t see myself ever tiring of it’s companionship. The black cardigan has come along with me on multiple adventures, and it’s one of those pieces that will always feel nostalgic to me…

THE EIGHTIES CALLED…

The Eighties often gets mentioned in a negative tone when it comes to the world of fashion – if an outfit looks a little too vibrant, or the shoulder pads come up a little too large, we often feel in danger of emulating fancy dress attire. I’m sure many of us have looked back at old family photos of our parents who fell victim to a bad perm, or a questionable case of acid wash denim. Whatever your opinion on Eighties fashion – it definitely wasn’t an era that fell short of self expression, iconic dance moves, and polka dot hair bows…

MATISSE T-SHIRT

I was looking around my little flat recently after a visit to an antique warehouse – we are moving in March, and I wanted to get a bit of interior design inspiration. I suddenly started thinking about how people have such vastly different ideas about what’s attractive – in all senses of the word. In people, in homeware, in fashion – everyone has certain things they are more in favour of. For me, fashion has always had something to do with balance – an outfit always has to feel like it’s balanced in order for me to start getting excited about it. I can’t quite articulate what that really means – I guess a combination of pieces that feel like they fit together. Like a jigsaw puzzle of clothing that I can wear…

DECONSTRUCTING AN OUFIT

When it comes to fashion, this time of year is all about layers – and lots of them! Layering can be tricky to get right sometimes – often an outfit can feel destroyed as soon as you add a winter coat, and other times it can really complete the look. Most winters, I’ve been guilty of steering away from outfits that I really like, just because I’ve convinced myself that they make me look massively bulky. Think Joey from Friends when he puts on everything Chandler owns – sometimes you just end up feeling frumpy, and pining for the summer months to hurry up…

JANUARY FAVOURITES | THE BELTED BLAZER

January has very much been a month of poor health – I’ve had enough coughs, colds, and sore throats to last me a lifetime. It’s very much been a month of poor weather too (it’s not all doom and gloom, stick with me here) – scattered snow storms, and very little daylight, has meant a lot more days hiding under the duvet than usual. I’m not entirely sure why my immune system has had a breakdown this month, I’ve been eating better than ever, and really trying to get back on the health wagon after Christmas. I’ve even bought myself some fancy new gym trainers in an attempt to woo me back on the treadmill, and awayyyy from the festive chocolate stash…

STYLING THE OVERSIZED SCARF

My current outfit inspiration has basically been anything that makes me feel like I’m still in bed – pieces that are oversized, but still manage to make me look like a functioning human. With this in mind, you can imagine how happy I was when I stumbled across this oversized scarf – it basically doubles up as an actual blanket, and covers a multitude of sins (toothpaste stains). I’ve seen a lot of these kind of scarfs around lately, and I couldn’t be more thankful for it’s arrival in my life. It means I can pretty much wear whatever I want underneath my coat/jacket, and still have the option of an extra layer when wandering from place to place…

WARM IN WINTER | CAFÉ DE FLORE

I recently got the chance to visit Café De Flore whilst in Paris – I have to blame Tumblr and Pinterest for making me want to go, and spending a ridiculous amount on coffee. However, it’s definitely worth it as a little luxurious treat, sometimes we all need a little of that in our lives – particularly in January. I don’t know what it is about this time of the month that turns me into a sluggish, unmotivated, sloth creature. I just haven’t been hit with that new year get up and go just yet, so a little getaway provided the perfect distraction…

THE PERFECT BLACK OVERALLS & VISITING L’APPARTEMENT SÉZANE

Sézane are one of those brands that remain close to my heart – they were one of the first to recognise my photography and work as a blogger, and have remained both generous and supportive ever since. They keep in touch throughout the year, and let me pick out pieces each time a new collection drops, I then feature them organically – basically just as and when I wear them. They are one of those brands that aren’t motivated by financial gain, and instead, have empowering women at the forefront of everything they create. I guess it’s safe to say I’m a huge fan of they way they conduct their online empire, and I was super excited to finally visit their Paris based store…
