I was mulling over some new year topics to discuss on here, and I really didn’t just want to give you guys a list of goals that I probably won’t stick to. In all honesty, I don’t feel as though there’s a great deal of changes I need to make this year. I feel like I finally got a grasp on how I want to live life in 2018 (ahh yesteryear). I travelled as much as I could, I did things that scared me regardless, I focused more on my relationships, and I practiced self care properly for the first time…

By ‘properly’, I mean the following – choosing myself more. Choosing to be around negative people less. Choosing opportunities whenever they arise. Choosing to have more downtime and feel less guilty for it. Choosing to be happy at times when it would have been easier to be sad. In 2018 I chose myself a lot, I got to know myself more than ever before, and I didn’t hate what I found…

I basically just want to keep moving forward and to forget all that ‘new year, new me bullshit’. I’d love to keep getting healthier and to stick to my gym sessions. Would I like to diet? No, but I’d love to slowly make healthy lifestyle choices like cutting out meat entirely this year. Not to please anyone or to have the Vegetarian label, but for myself and for the environment. I’d also love to travel as much as possible, write as much as possible,  and start saving for a house. I’ve wanted to own a property for as long as I can remember, so I really need to buckle down and start being a grown up! (Half the time at least). These are all things I’ve been working towards for some time now, so there’s nothing that feels like a resolution, and that’s exactly how I like it…

I guess the point of this post was to remind you that you don’t need to have a set list of goals neatly lined up in your shiny new 2019 journal in order to get ahead. Chances are you’re already doing just fine, and January is just another month. It doesn’t have to be as gloomy as we all like to make it either – I try and see it as easing myself into the new year and dipping my toes back into familiar territory.

This year I want to be kind to myself – I don’t want to beat myself up about all the chocolate I consumed throughout the festive season, and I definitely don’t want to feel like I’m not good enough just because I don’t have resolutions to reel off to people.

So don’t feel bad if half your Instagram feed are laying on a beach in Mexico somewhere, or sweating it out at the local gym – just do you. A new year doesn’t always have to signify a clean slate, sometimes it’s a chance to start over when you really need it, but other times it’s just a chance to continue the great work you’ve already been doing…

This “new year new me” can really be exiting at first, but when it fades away, it’s gone. I guess my point here it to say that it’s nice to finally see someone not making resolutions as you are happy with the way you are. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be better, but sometimes it’s nice to stop where we are and be happy with what we have.
    xx
