WEAR THE SUNSHINE INSTEAD

With the arrival of this weeks snow here in Manchester, it’s safe to say that spring has never felt further away right now. Spring is one of my favourite times of year because I feel like everything just starts to get a little better – the days gradually become longer, and it sets the mood for the summer that lies ahead. It’s also the time when I start to put myself on a strict knitwear ban, I’ve acquired so many jumpers this winter that it’s starting to get a bit ridiculous. With around two weeks until we jump ship to the new flat, I’ve been having a huge wardrobe clear out…

TRUSTING YOUR GUT

It can often seem like strange advice when people tell you to trust your gut instincts – especially when making monumental life decisions. Some of us have a stronger sense of self than others, and some of us just lack the confidence to speak out about what we truly believe in. I think I’ve always had a strong sense of what I wanted since I was very small, not necessarily career wise, but in the day to day scheme of things. I wouldn’t consider myself an indecisive soul – I’ve never been someone who’s needed much convincing, If I have my heart set on something then I’ll do everything in my power to make it a reality…

SUCCESS IN DOING NOTHING

I’m pretty sure we all fall victim to the guilt of doing nothing sometimes. We are often flooded with a feeling of not seizing the opportunity that awaits us when we commence our duvet and Netflix day. Especially when it’s a sunny day but you’d rather stay inside and hibernate than be outside in the fresh air where there’s people. I have never felt this guilt more than when I started my freelancing adventure, a day doing nothing often feels like a day completely wasted. This is because I’m constantly side eyeing my To-Do list, and I’m aware that ultimately, there’s always something more productive I could be doing other than getting stuck into my Ryan Gosling colouring book…

THE NIGHT OWL

I’m sure there are lots of fellow night owls out there – we’ve all spent a ridiculous amount of money on bath salts and lavender scented pillow sprays over the years. We’ve tried putting our phones underneath the mattress and picking up a good book instead. Rainforest music, eye masks, and every kind of soothing herbal tea available. There’s just something about the world outside turning dark that makes the one inside my head illuminate…

BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY

Having grown up in a small village where I heard nothing but birds tweeting/church bells ringing when I awoke on a Sunday morning, it’s safe to say that city centre life is a lot different. My first experience of city life was when I left home to study English literature in Leeds. I absolutely loved Leeds, and would whole heartedly recommend it to anyone – it had the perfect mix of vibrant city life, combined with beautiful countryside that was never too far away…

TAKING THE PRESSURE OFF

I was recently thinking about social media and how much pressure it comes with (average Monday morning) – particularly for people that find themselves building a career from it. I see lots of people I admire question their ability and their creativity, and it’s really made me take a step back over the last couple of months and revaluate what I wanted out of my blog/online presence. For instance, when I started YouTube, I naively vowed to post at least one video a week. I didn’t realise how much work it would be, or how difficult it would be to capture a video that reflects who I am as a real person…

THE KINDEST GIFT

Ahh Valentines day – whatever your thoughts on the occasion, it seems to have many people feeling divided. As someone who has been in a relationship for over seven years now, I can safely say that Valentines day doesn’t really make a difference to me. It’s also safe to say that relationships don’t correlate with happiness, and that’s something I’ve learnt as I’ve got older and more independent – we have to be able to make ourselves happy, or nobody else will truly be able to…

RECOGNISING IMPROVEMENTS

First of all, I just want to address the elephant in the room here, and apologise for how creased this blazer is – I didn’t realise until I looked back at the photos, but it seems a shame to waste them based off my poor ironing skills alone. Anyway, hopefully you can look past it and enjoy this post regardless! I wanted to talk a bit about social anxiety – it’s something I’ve addressed a few times on here, and definitely something I’ve struggled with for as long as I can remember. I think it’s always something that I’ll carry with me to a certain extent, but recently I realised that I hadn’t stopped to notice how much I’ve improved over the years…

GLOSSIER | MY TOP PICKS

My beauty posts tend to be a bit few and far in-between – this is mainly because I don’t like to share anything on my blog that I haven’t tried and tested for a good few weeks, and partly because I’m a creature of habit. Anything that makes it’s way into my beauty cabinet gets used up until the very last drops – I hate having an excess of products that just get wasted, so I try and keep my beauty routine as streamline as possible. I very much have a handful of brands that I trust when it comes to new products, but I’m always open to discovering new things. I’m pretty sure everyone and their cat has heard about Glossier by now, and I’ve featured a lot of their products over on Instagram stories over the past six months. I thought it was about time I did a little roundup of my favourites so far…
