WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT BLOGGING

My blog is around sixteen months old at this point and pretty much still in it’s infant stages of development – I’m not sure where it will take me from one week to the next, but with each month that goes by, I feel as though I learn something new about the blogging industry. An industry I’ve accidentally found myself a part of due to my combined love of fashion and writing. For the most part, I feel as though I observe a community that are genuinely supportive and accommodating to other creatives – people who praise the success of others and are extremely welcoming. However, I do think (like most industries), we have a long way to travel in terms of standing out and celebrating the opportunities we have to be unique…

TIME OF THE YEAR

This time of year often goes hand in hand with a sudden feeling of demotivation – the days get shorter and the weather makes us all feel like doing nothing (what a cheery opening sentence). I love summer because the days often feel endless, meaning I can squeeze as much in as possible and really feel productive. These days, It’s gloomy by half three in the afternoon, and pretty much completely dark by half four – it means that I really have to plan my days out more carefully and prioritise certain tasks in order to feel like I’ve achieved something at the end of the week…

POLKA DOTS FOR PARTY SEASON

It’s the time of year when the high street is throwing an array of shimmery, sequinned goodness our way and we start to feel the self control leaving our bodies. It’s really easy to fall into the trap of buying anything with a metallic thread running through it – I for one have been majorly guilty of this over the years, but have vowed to do things a little differently this time. I really want to just invest in pieces that I can wear all year round, and make them seasonally appropriate with the simple switch up of accessories. This isn’t me being a big old scrooge and warning you off all the classic party-wear attire, but rather just advocating another way in which you could make your current wardrobe work for the festivities ahead…

LITERATURE CHAT

Finally got around to filming a literature related post! Hope it’s interesting and apologies in advance if it’s too long again – I won’t be filming another literature video now until early next year, so wanted to try and squeeze everything in…

BROWN CORD TROUSERS

Cord seems to be one of those materials that completely divides people – you either love it or hate it. Some are of the opinion that it’s just for old men, and for others the feel of it alone makes them wince. Personally, I find elderly men some of the best dressed people around, and my opinion of cord has always been that it’s amazing when you get it right. I have a few cord A-line skirts in my collection from over the years, but I haven’t owned a pair of cord trousers since I was a child. Mainly because I just haven’t ever been able to find the right style for me…

THE BIKER JACKET

I feel like I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect biker jacket for most of my twenties – so basically around five whole years now. It was a trend that I admired when I was a teenager, but never felt cool enough for – I’d crush over the likes of Alexa Chung and hope that one day I could pull it off the way she did. Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t feel cool enough to rock a leather jacket, I am the clumsiest person you will ever meet, and I’m likely to be sat in my boyfriends dressing gown watching films when Friday evening comes around…

FRENCH SCHOOL GIRL

I have always loved playing out certain characters with the way I dress – somehow it makes the tedious tasks that lie ahead during the week a little more bearable, and often a lot more fun. There’s a certain confidence to be had in dressing for your mood each morning, whether that’s as minimal as a jumper and a pair of jeans, or something inspired by a character you’ve resonated with in a TV show or the pages of a book. I have often described my personal style as somewhere lost between Grandad and school girl, it’s the best description I’ve managed to come up with in my twenty five years…

PLAYING WITH COLOUR

Introducing colour into my outfits is a little challenge I have set myself over the last couple of months – I’ve been wanting to make my wardrobe more diverse in terms of colour range, whilst also staying true to my personal style. Whilst I love bold prints like polka dots, checks, and stripes, I tend to naturally find myself gravitating towards the less colourful option available. For me, autumn/winter is the most natural time for me to start injecting a bit of colour – suddenly we have all the muted greens, yellows and rusty orange colours available to us – burgundy scarfs and bright red knits galore, it’s my idea of colour paradise as they mesh so perfectly with the pieces I already have hanging in my wardrobe..

BACK TO VINTAGE

If you’ve followed my outfits for a while now, you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of vintage clothing in general. For some people, even the idea of vintage shopping is enough to put them off – a lot of us don’t like the idea of parting with our hard earned money if someone else has worn it first, or if it has a suspicious looking tear in the material. I completely understand why some people might not be the biggest fans of the whole vintage experience, but for me personally, I love nothing more than stumbling across the perfect vintage piece that my wardrobe has been crying out for. I get a real sense of accomplishment that doesn’t often present itself when shopping on the high street – a feeling of not only picking up an item that has a few stories to tell, but also that I’m investing a little more ethically…

THE TIME SAVING OUTFIT

Despite blogging/outfit arranging being my full time job, I’m guilty of being quite lazy when it comes to mixing up my looks each day – half asleep and usually in need of coffee, I grab whichever jeans are closest to me and work from there. Denim has pretty much always been my starting piece of choice when it comes to composing an everyday outfit – there’s one combination in particular that I wear at least once a week, and probably will do for the rest of time…
