If you’ve been following my Instagram/blog for a while then you may have noticed that I’m obsessed with all things French. For me, Parisian girls possess some of the best style around – Jane Birkin and Francoise Hardy are two fine examples of this. Although Jane is actually English, both ladies channel that effortless french vibe that I endlessly chase, and are forever in my thoughts when struggling for inspiration…

French things just seem to have that added charm – little antique bookshops, music, and of course, CROISSANTS, are all way up there on my endless list of french favourites. Fun fact – my Dad’s side of the family are actually French Canadian, my Grandad is called Leon, and I spent a lot of Summers camping in France as a child. I think this may have something to do with my adoration for France/beautiful Parisian women, and Serge Gainsbourg galore. France is embedded in my upbringing and will always be a magical place to me. Admittedly, I haven’t quite got the speaking part down yet – I got a B at French GCSE and that was about the extent of my efforts. I think this may be one of my goals for the new year – brush up on French for my Paris trip in February. I’d love to be able to speak fluently but sadly most of the phrases I know are completely useless unless I’m purchasing biscuits, or find myself in a pet shop…

Enough of my rambling anyway and instead let’s focus on my current favourite french thing – this little handmade skirt! It’s by a brand called Cleo which happens to be owned by a mother and daughter who work together to create classic, french inspired pieces. If that isn’t enough charm for you then I don’t know what is! It’s the perfect little vintage style skirt for injecting a bit of autumnal colour into my outfits. I’m not the most colourful person generally – I tend to prefer textures and patterns over bright/bold colours, but deep, muted colours like this are right up my street. I love how it contrasts against my hair colour, and I enjoy the fact that it’s been handmade by women who share the same inspirations and passion for well-made, timeless clothing…

Bonsoir [it’s 11pm Down Under] Alice! You’re my favourite fashion blogger and Instagrammer (just then I made a typo and my phone changed what I typed to ‘Instagram art’ which I think is a happy accident given that what you do is, in fact, art on Instagram). I too am a hopeless Francophile (add to that F. Scott Fitzgerald fanatic, devout aesthete, etc.) and enjoyed reading this post immensely, so thank you! P.S. I penned a piece on my love for all things French on my little blog The Rose Garden, please visit it sometime when you’re not busy crafting your next stylish do (which I look forward to seeing!) xx
